Choosing a Candle Holder:
1. Match your décor and style
a. Modern
b. Traditional
c. Contemporary
d. Eclectic
e. Shabby Elegance/Country
2. Type
a. Table Top candle holder – choose candle holders with a wide base to support the height of the candle holder.
b. Wall sconce – These are usually mounted on the wall and come with candle cups for votives or tealights. They are both decorative and functional.
c. Candelabra – These are a great accent to a modern or classic décor. Be sure to select the correct size candle for your candelabra. If you’re not sure, ask for assistance as it is important to use the right size to maintain safety. A floor candelabra can be used indoor or outdoor, for wedding, garden functions or other formal functions. Keep in mind the size of the table where you will place the candelabra and select one that will not be oversized or obstruct the view of those dining at the table.
3. Material
a. Iron/Metal – Usually hand forged, a scrolled ironwork candle holder can also double as a work of art on walls, in front of a fireplace or on a table. These can hold one or several candles. A metal candle holder will last for a very long time and ages very well. Brass and silver will tarnish and requires cleaning to maintain their luster.
b. Risen – Risen is a material that can be molded into a wider variety of shapes and styles and colors thus creating styles from the very simple lines to the most ornate. Although these can be made to look like marble and porcelain, they are a lot more durable.
c. Glass/Crystal – Elegant and reflective are great on any dinner table setting. These are usually more contemporary in styling.
d. Porcelain/Marble – Elegant and stylish, however they are not very durable and can break easily.
4. Great to give as a gift
a. If you know the style and décor of the person you would like to give a gift to but have a difficult time figuring out what to give…give a pair of candle holders. A candle holder is one of those accessories that you can use to match with an occasion. When the occasion has passed, you can change them out for some other type of accessory.
5. Create candlescapes
a. Set three candle holders of varying size on an entry table
b. To create more drama, place the candle holders on top of or in front of a mirror. Sprinkle the table with springtime rose petals or your favorite holiday décor such as surrounding the candle holders with twigs for the fall or some holly at Christmas.
c. Top these candle holders with matching candles scented or unscented. Most scented candles will be aromatic without being lit so your arriving guest will still be able to enjoy them.
Always use candles with care and never leave them unattended!
